A local orthodontic practice, under new ownership.
Whitehorse Orthodontics has looked after children, teens and adults since 1991. Dr. Jay Nagamatsu now owns and leads it.
Thirty-five years of local smiles, and a new chapter.
This practice has been correcting bites in Whitehorse since 1991. In that time it has treated several generations of the same families, worked alongside almost every dentist in the region, and become the place people are sent when teeth need moving.
It is now owned and led by Dr. Jay Nagamatsu, a certified specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. What that changes is not the address or the reputation, but the standard of care being brought to it: full specialist training, the current generation of appliances, and treatment planning that takes northern distances seriously rather than treating them as an inconvenience.
What has not changed is the practice's original commitment, which is worth stating plainly: patients here are told what they actually need, including when that is nothing at all.
Dr. Jay Nagamatsu, DMD, MSD.
Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
Dr. Nagamatsu read microbiology at Cornell before taking his dental degree at Tufts, then spent six years in general dental practice before returning to specialise. He completed a three year orthodontic residency and a Master of Science in Dentistry at Saint Louis University. Orthodontics is our specialty.
Those six years in general practice are the part that shows in his treatment plans. Having restored teeth that were worn, cracked and difficult to clean because of how they met, he plans orthodontic cases around long-term function and stability rather than around the front six teeth in a photograph.
He has been practicing orthodontics here in Whitehorse for sixteen years, and now owns the practice outright.

Four things you can hold us to.
We tell you when you need nothing
Plenty of the children we assess need no treatment at all, and plenty of adults get a smaller plan than they expected. Saying so is the fastest way to earn the referral that follows.
The plan is yours to approve
Every suitable option, its duration, its trade-offs and its cost, set out side by side before anything is fitted. You decide, on your terms and in your time.
Distance is part of the diagnosis
An appointment schedule that ignores a four-hour drive is not a treatment plan. Where you live shapes the appliance we recommend and how often we ask you to come in.
Specialist training, applied to specialists' work
Orthodontics is a recognised dental specialty requiring years of residency beyond dental school. It is the only thing this practice does.
The people you will actually see.
Behind the orthodontist is a small clinical and front-desk team who between them have decades of orthodontic experience in this building. They are the ones who will know your name, work out your appointment around the school run or the highway, and take your call when a bracket comes loose.
If you are travelling in, they are also the ones who will group your family's appointments onto one day and tell you honestly whether a problem needs the drive or can wait for the next visit.
See the practice before you commit to anything.
Your first consultation is complimentary, takes about an hour, and ends with a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
