Metal Braces

The most proven appliance in orthodontics, and far more comfortable than the braces you remember. High-grade stainless steel brackets and light archwires move teeth predictably, with coloured elastics if you want them.

Metal Braces at Whitehorse Orthodontics
What it is

Fixed metal braces remain the most versatile appliance in orthodontics. There is no tooth movement they cannot achieve, no compliance to worry about, and no case too complicated for them.

They are also nothing like the braces you may remember. Modern brackets are smaller and lower profile, and the archwires are light, heat-activated alloys that work continuously with far less force. That means less soreness and fewer adjustment visits than the same treatment would have needed twenty years ago.

For younger patients, coloured elastics turn them into something to choose rather than endure. For adults who would rather they went unnoticed, clear elastics keep them as low-key as metal braces get.

Metal Braces at Whitehorse Orthodontics
Why patients choose it

What metal braces gives you.

  • Nothing is beyond them

Rotations, impacted teeth, closing extraction spaces, correcting the bite itself. Fixed braces handle the cases removable appliances cannot.

  • They work while you sleep

Bonded to the teeth and never removed, so treatment progresses whether or not you remember to do anything.

  • The most predictable cost

Metal braces are the most affordable full-treatment option we offer, and the fee is fixed at the start of treatment.

  • Made your colour

New elastics at every visit. Team colours, holidays, or clear if you would rather they disappeared.

How it works

Step by step, from first visit to finished.

  1. 01

    Examination and records

A clinical exam, radiographs and digital scans that show what is happening below the gumline as well as above it.

  2. 02

    Your treatment plan

We walk you through what needs to move, how long it will take, what it costs, and what the alternatives are.

  3. 03

    Fitting day

About an hour in the chair. Each bracket is bonded individually and the first archwire is placed. Nothing about it hurts.

  4. 04

    Adjustments

A short visit every six to ten weeks to change wires, add auxiliaries and check progress.

  5. 05

    Debond and retain

Braces come off, we polish everything smooth, and your retainers are fitted the same day to hold the result.

FAQ

About metal braces.

Anything we have not covered? Call (867) 668-4406 and ask.

  • How long will I wear braces?

Most patients are in braces for eighteen to twenty-four months. Early or limited treatment can be far shorter. Your own estimate comes from your records, not an average.

  • Do braces hurt?

Fitting them does not. Your teeth will be tender to bite on for three to five days afterwards, and again briefly after each adjustment. Soft food and a warm salt-water rinse handle it; paracetamol if you need it.

  • What can't I eat?

Anything hard, sticky or chewy: ice, nuts, hard candy, caramel, gum. Cut apples and carrots rather than biting into them. Everything else is fair game.

  • How often do I need to come in?

Roughly every six to ten weeks. If you are travelling in from out of town, tell us and we will stretch the intervals and book longer appointments.
